We are having another Salcombe Yawl Racing weekend 6/7 October 2023

Yawls are 16’ clinker dinghies with mizzen mast (similar to a Cornish Crabber but faster)

The Owners loan the yawls but usually accompany them, so them format is 1 Owner and 2-3 BESA members per yawl and then team/companies host the owner plus 1 for Saturday Night dinner).

It’s a fun fund raiser for the Lifeboat (its your boat so support it) and the lifeboat crew will take part in racing and everyone can tour the boat and the Station (which was donated by Eric Newman a previous Chairman).

There may be a chance to go out on the Lifeboat on Sunday(subject to operational demands.)

Friday 6thOct  Briefing and sandwich lunch at Salcombe Yacht Club 12.00

1st race 14.00 hrs

2nd race 16.00 hrs

Friday evening Pub/Pizza/Fish n chips sponsored by the Baltic Exchange , buy your drinks however (venue to be announced)

Saturday 7th Oct

The Lifeboat station has commandeered 2 Racing Gigs, so each side will race the Gigs from Salcombe to Mill bay near the entrance to the harbour where the yawls will be on the beach ready to do a Le Mans start for 1st race of the day (start time 11.00 so you can enjoy breakfast).

Yawls will return to Mill Bay for Salcombe Pastie Picnic on the beach

Launches will be on hand to take other halves to Mill Bay for the race start or they can catch East Portlemouth ferry over and walk along for the Pastie Picnic

2nd and 3rdraces Start from Salcombe Yacht Club Race box start

Sat Night

Grand Dinner, raffle & Auction at the Winking Prawn at North Sands

Its great other halves weekend with walks, golf at Thurleston, shops galore and it might be sale time then

Launches to take people around etc

Entries must be either Companies or Individual groups of 3 +

ITS £ 500.00 PER BOAT STRAIGHT TO THE SALCOMBE RNLI/BALTIC IV FUND

PLUS DINNER COST INCLUDING OWNER AND PARTNER, PRICE TO BE ADVISED

Getting there

By car or rail London to Totnes if leave early Friday am in time for 12.00 briefing, sub numbers will arrange mini bus from Totnes to Salcombe

or Thursday afternoon to make a longer weekend of it.
